Vema Reddy

Vema Reddy, Ancestor of Yogi Vemana, Katarupalli, Gandlapenta Mandal in Anantapur District, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Yogi Vemana was born in Kondaveedu; Guntur Dist. This is the place where yogi Vemana had spent his last days. This is also the place where he was buried. Yogi Vemana came to Katarupalli by saying some principles. He did many prayers in this village. His sayings are attracted by the simplicity of these verses. This solitary life has led him to address all the verses to himself, which, if this be not recollected, certainly looks like the grossest egotism. This practice is far indeed from being peculiar to Vemana. Of his aphorisms many have become common proverbs. Parts of them are evidently close translations from Sanskrit works, particularly the Hitopadesa and Bhagavat Gita. All kinds of Abhishekams are being done on his birthday. We got a good support from the government for the construction of his Samadhi. Lot of pilgrims from other places visit this sacred place.
